In Greek mythology Mykonos was the location of the battle between Zeus and the Titan, and the island was named in honor of Apollo's grandson Mykons. The island is located in the Greek Cyclades, and spans an area of approximately 41 square miles. It is made primarily of granite, and is surround by the Aegean Sea.
